Holy Saturday, April 11th

Today is the last day of Lent, and so our collection of devotions selected from across the world comes to a close. We leave you now with a short reflection of our own to close out the season and prepare for Easter Sunday:

Relevant Scripture: Lamentations 3:1-9, 19-24

Reflection:
Today we sit, as the disciples did, in mourning of our Lord. We are confronted with the reality of death, not just of Jesus, but of our own mortality as well. We know there is a resurrection coming, but we nonetheless wonder: What hope is there in a world where even the most righteous man is put to death?

The writer of the lamentation wonders similar things, but with a harsher tone. Why has God made us like this? Why does he put us through such suffering? Is it God’s anger? Yet even the writer acknowledges that, despite all this, there is hope in God’s love and mercy. Today, all we can do is pray and wait for the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Prayer:
Almighty God, we lament, but we also have hope.
Your steadfast love never ceases,
and your mercies never end.
They are new every morning.
Great is your faithfulness!
